Fostering Community Connections Within Our Church

Fostering Community Connections Within Our Church

Dove of Peace Lutheran Church is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which lends us the motto “God’s work, our hands.” A fundamental component of our faith is that God loves people, and God’s love in action is what we call grace. Practicing grace through joyful generosity is a cornerstone of our church’s mission. With so much pain and suffering in the world, we strive to connect to our community to lift people up and help them in a variety of ways. We are driven by purposeful action to meet the needs of those around us.

Feeding the Hungry

Every month, members of our church gather to shop, cook, and deliver a hot meal to the 100 men housed at the Primavera shelter. We also donate hundreds of pounds to the Interfaith Community Services food bank and contribute annually to the Feed My Starving Children event, which has international reach. Of course, if someone comes to our doors hungry, we do not turn them away. We readily provide a bag of food suitable for rough living conditions—we never ask qualifying questions.

Collecting for Lulu Walker Elementary School

Lulu Walker Elementary is just down the road from us on Roller Coaster Road, which has led our church to think of it as our school. More than 60% of the school’s students qualify for the lunch program, so we know they can use our help. Every year as school begins, our Social Ministry team organizes collections of backpacks and school supplies. The school nurse also has a direct line to our church to fill a cupboard at the school with jackets, socks, shoes, and underwear for any student in need of these items.

Classical Concert Series

From January through April each year, we host a free classical concert series. Four concerts are funded entirely by our church with all freewill offerings from each performance donated to a specific charity designated for the occasion. Through the years, we have raised thousands for organizations, including Gospel Rescue Mission, Youth on Their Own, Habitat for Humanity, Emerge Women’s Shelter, and Interfaith Community Services.

Put your faith into action with Dove of Peace Lutheran Church. We invite you to attend a Sunday service in person at our church or virtually through our weekly livestream.
